GJ Clean and create

Wednesday’s are like, eh, middle of the week hump. Awkward spelling, really just a mediocre mundane day. Until now ahah! Every last Wednesday of the month is a day to get outside, soak up that sun and do some good for Mother Earth. Specifically, I’m talking about a river cleanup session that ends in art making, collaborating hooha. Think of it as a cocktail hour cleanup with some art making! :)

The act is simple; we meet at a boat launch at 5:30 the last Wednesday of every month and spend half an hour cleaning up the riversides. Then we regroup and spend another half hour separating the litter and collaging it into a community art piece.

The logo concept

A marriage of my illustrative style with a minimal take on the artist’s palette. An overall scene that communicates the geographic lands of Grand Junction and what trash can do to that desert beauty.

I’m calling it litter by numbers

The first art piece started with the line-work of a rainbow trout layered above a minimal water texture. The idea is to create spaces within the drawing that can be filled with a color of trash or paint. The overall piece has a cadence of different trash textures and color rising above the valley of the original painted wood.

Repurposing some wood laying around in the shop.

I’ve recently wrote a grant that bolsters this idea and reemerges it in 2023 with a permanent art install down at Las Colonias. You can see a teaser of the build below.
